Stood blankly as walls love will not set you going a stopped watch Give thankingly to that which is not your own tended plot grows unseen Hush those voices failing starting autumn waters hear the rush coming All that lives on is all that gives up the mending season carries us in Cast as mutes in another fight the subtle rite even numbers can't sanctify Turn to the sun hallowed by the light such golden inside you've kept hidden Hush those voices failing starting autumn waters feel the rush coming All that lives on is all that gives up the mending season carries us in Feel the rush coming
2.
You say you want war you say you want war this is what you asked for All against all all against all this is what you asked for And all your riches and all your rents can't keep us out And all your titles and all your trinkets can't keep you safe And all your excuses that you call ideas can't keep us out What you reap is what you sew and what we eat is what you've grown This is what you asked for And all your garlands and all your guard dogs can't keep us out And all your trespass and all your tithes can't keep you safe And all of your wisdom that builds all your walls can't keep us out It's coming it's coming now And all your garlands and all your guard dogs can't keep us out And all your trespass and all your tithes can't keep you safe And all your wisdom that builds all your walls can't keep us out It's coming it's coming now This is what you asked for

Rewild 05:57
Suddenly they were all gone an exponent function The West undressed and we turned our eyes the clever ape metastasized Down from the trees across the land destined or just happenstance? Not in our natures not in our stars no other witnesses to call Rewild the turning can’t turn too soon the last sigh of lunatics this empire of plastic extinct or evolved
4.
Monuments 06:55
Turn the machine round tear the eiffels down start again quiet that awful sound bring the tall to ground start again face the organs down burn the towers to powder start again The highest will not make right the highest will not make right Unseen unheard stillborn the last word start again they who lost who won they who have and have-none start again too big to fail too old to change start again The highest will not make right the highest will not make right Monuments sore idols of edifice regard we overlooked, we clamour to make you low make you low
5.
Absent 06:32
Close the door turn down the light tonight we go absent from the world Forget their eyes and the small brutalities Won't flinch at the scars inflicted and undeserved Tomorrow will rise again do battle with the world tonight just be a friend We'll plot and scheme to seize the means of our providence We'll take our share and leave the fighting to the dogs For while we sleep there are those who dream of undoing the peace They'll get their turn once we're reminded and restored Tomorrow will rise again do battle with the world tonight just be a friend Tonight we go absent from the world
6.
Life is unfolded unfolding fast Like last light on the longest night Stars are singing grieving their end The last breath of the briefest life Don’t close your eyes too soon morning follows the moon All the lights go together they will be gone but not forever not forever Day is opened opening at last Turned from dark on the longest night
7.
Old Road 04:53
Take a turn off the old road to the land of here-who-knows take a chance on a new wind maybe there I'll see you friend And all our lives will be standing there all those doors unopened Take the old road down so many paths still unfound time Make this bond to not turn back so many roads have turned to traps If we don't meet when you get there At least for a time we walked together And all our lives will be standing there all those doors unopened Take the old road down so many paths still unfound time

In My Armour 07:33
Feared too long not over it yet put it down in song not over it yet Time to learn or forget feared too long not over it yet Spent too long in my armour rehearsed too well my best errors Traded blows not good graces spent too long what time before us it's unknown Obscured too long to discern it yet sought the word can't discern it yet Time to learn or forget obscured too long to discern it yet Been too long Still feels real ask the minute hand how long? In my armour rehearsed too well my best errors Traded blows not good graces spent too long what time before us it's unknown

about

ROSH is proud to announce the release of his debut album, 'Ask The Minute Hand'. Written over two continents and recorded during the middle of the pandemic, 'Ask The Minute Hand', is a record about what it means to live with honesty and integrity during a time of multiple crises and crippling uncertainties.

The songs on Ask the Minute Hand build on the themes of ROSH’s first record, the See Them Rise EP (beautiful…warm, folk music - BBC Introducing), of mortality, history, ecology and protest. But where See Them Rise was tender and intimate, Ask the Minute Hand is expansive and ambitious, in its orchestration, composition and meaning. ROSH enlisted many talented friends to embroider this record with a bigger sound palette - with brass, strings and voices - as well as a deeper lyricism.

ROSH still magics up delicate moments, like the grief-stricken cry against the climate and ecological crises - ‘Rewild’ - or the ballad to intimacy and friendship - ‘Absent’. But there are also elements of barely contained rage, like the anthem against billionaires, demagogues and the ruling-classes - ‘This Is What You Asked For’ - or the hymn against our rotten systems - ‘Monuments’.

There are also moments of simple beauty, like the rousing closer ‘In My Armour’ - a call to living courageously - or the gorgeous lead single - ‘Mending Season’, which embodies the album's central theme of a commitment to growth and healing in the face of uncertainty.

ROSH says “I wrote some of these songs on a trip to India to visit my family and to see the country of my heritage. The people I met and the experiences I had there distilled into song, mostly on the majesty of the natural world and the ugliness of the inequality and indignity people are forced to live with…

… the other half of the album was written during the pandemic. ‘Mending Season’ came first in a rush of feeling. These newer songs reflect what we were all going through in that time, where I questioned what it would take to heal from such a collective trauma, as well as entertaining darker thoughts about how civilizations end…

… A central theme of the record is one I have returned to many times, and I imagine I will keep returning to, namely how do we live with courage, honesty and integrity in the face of our own mortality and the grotesque inequalities of our world? That has always been a motivating question of my music and this record is my humble way of trying to answer it”.

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
